Writing Prompts

It depends really. If you could change the setting so that you could change what was being said in the bubble then yes and if you can turn it off. It would be good because shy people can talk to people just by thinking! People might want to annoy you by looking you up in the phone book and prank call you. And if you were gay or lesbian everyone would know and might tease or bully you.

Oscar The Cat Predicts Impending Death

When the administrators of the Steere House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Providence, Rhode Island, adopted six 'therapy' cats from an animal shelter, they had no idea that among them was one that possessed an uncanny sixth sense to predict the impending death of terminally ill patients.
Oscar the tabby cat's story begins in 2005, when the newly born kitten was placed on third floor of the nursing center, home to patients that are in the last stages of illnesses like Alzheimer's, Parkinson's and cancer. The kitten spent the first year lazing around and watching the bustling activity around him. Then, just before his first birthday, Oscar began visiting each of the 41-patients on the floor regularly, just like the doctors and nurses did.
Initially, the hospital staff did not pay much attention to the feline's behavior. However, after some of the people that Oscar was snuggled next to passed away, they began to notice a pattern - the cat only went close to those that were a few hours away from dying. Otherwise, he would curl up on a desk and spend the day sleeping.
To test if it was just a coincidence the staff tried to place Oscar next to a patient they believed was close to dying. But the paranormal cat refused to stay put and decided to snuggle next to someone else. Turns out he was right because 'his' patient died that same evening, while the one whose death the nurses had thought was imminent lived on for another two days.
Among the biggest believers in Oscar's paranormal powers is Dr. David Dosa, a geriatrician and Assistant Professor at Brown University. He is so convinced of Oscar's unusual 'gift' that he not only published a paper about him in the New England Journal of Medicine but also wrote a book. Entitled "Making rounds with Oscar: The extraordinary gift of an ordinary cat’, the 2010 publication outlines the various pieces of evidence he has been able to gather about the cat's predicting powers. Also convinced is the hospital staff who has been using Oscar's fortelling abilities to inform family members so they can bid farewell to their loved ones before it's too late.
Of course, not everyone believes that Oscar has a sixth sense. Some feline experts think that his perfect timing may have to do with a certain smell that the cat has come to associate with death. Others spectulate it may have to do with the lack of movement in people that are about to die.
Then there are the sceptics who maintain that Oscar's record is not as perfect as it has been made out to be. They think that the hospital staff and Dr. Dosa have simply 'cherry picked' the occasions when Oscar has been accurate and ignored the ones when he has not. Fortunately, none of this negative chatter has affected nine-year-old Oscar who continues to provide comfort to sick people in their final hours!

TGC Blog Post

Today we went to Tauranga Girls College for our orientation day. We went with a group around most of the classrooms and had a look, I was in a group with Hannah & Aysha. New information that I have about the school is were the student and sports office is. I remembered some other people that I had forgotten. What impressed me was that all the Student Ambassador's were really friendly, helpful and nice. I didn't have any questions going in and I still don't have any questions. I felt excited but scared at the same time. Excited because I get to go to a new school and make new friends. Scared because I have to go away from everything I know and go somewhere where I don't know most of the teachers. Sad because I have to leave some of my good friends behind because they are going to otemotai or mount,

A Paddles Point of View:

As I glide through the water, the person gripping me with sweaty hands panting. Suddenly I'm shoved into the kayak, I look up at my person who has grabbed the sides of a different kayak. Then someone sprints along the front of the kayaks spraying water all over my face. I hear a splash. The person fell in! They grope for the sides of their kayak, eyes closed. Suddenly they pick me up out of the boat they stick me into the water, I feel myself floating down. I hit the ground, I hear laughing above the water. I suddenly shoot back up the light blinds me. We start to paddle slowly back to shore I get carried back to my rack that I lie on. I see people running everywhere. Some one jumps off the high diving board making a large splash. Out of the blue someone grabs me, we go off kayaking again, they stand up laughing trying to balance they fall in dropping me as they fall. They splutter to the top they grab me and we kayak in, dropping me on the rack its the end of the day.

This was taken at a batik factory. What is batik?

Batik is a fabric dyeing method using wax to create patterns and designs. The art of decorating cloth in this way, using wax and dye, has been practised for centuries. In Java, Indonesia, batik is part of an ancient tradition. The word batik originates from the Javanese tikand means to dot. To make a batik, selected areas of the cloth are blocked out by brushing or drawing hot wax over them, and the cloth is then dyed. The parts covered in wax resist the dye and remain the original colour.

The Perspective of a Blade of Grass...

As I waited, anticipated, who was going to step on me, I saw a crowd of multicoloured T-shirts run at me, dreading the unexpected I turned around expecting the worst nothing happened. I turned around slowly I blinked and missed it I was stepped on, spat on, sweated on.

I open my eyes everythings fuzzy. I see no more runners, I must have blacked out. But suddenly out of nowhere I see someone with a red shirt coming down the home straight they just miss me. Now its just being lucky from now on. Another two people come running sprint past me they are neck and neck but one of them pulls through.

OW! I feel a sharp pain run down my spine everyones coming now i'm feeling frightened. Ugh I have a headache but its finally over no more pain no more getting covered in vulgar substances. NOOO theres one more person plodding alone BOOM, BOOM, BOOM, they pick up the jog the ground is shaking now I find myself bing crushed i'm stuck to his shoe CRUNCH, CRUNCH, CRUNCH, CRUNCH, CRUNCH, goes my spine I finally fall off.
